סופיאן אמרבט ומרוקו: ואחבי אומר שדלת הנבחרת נשארת פתוחה
מוחמד ואחבי ביקש להבהיר את המצב סביב סופיאן אמרבט, insisting that the midfielder’s absence from Morocco’s latest squad is not the result of a personal dispute. Speaking to reporters at the Mohammed VI Football Complex on Thursday, the national team coach explained that playing time and competition for places were central to his decision-making.
Amrabat’s situation was among the main topics raised during Ouahbi’s press conference, held after the coach announced his squad for the upcoming fixtures against Gabon, Lesotho and Ghana.
“There is no conflict between Amrabat and me or the staff,” Ouahbi said, explaining that the midfielder’s desire for greater playing time had contributed to the current situation.

The Morocco coach also underlined the midfielder’s importance to the national side over recent years. Amrabat has been a prominent figure for the Lions of the Atlas and has played an important role in the team during several international campaigns.
Ouahbi acknowledged that moving from an established position within the squad to a reduced role can be difficult, particularly as younger players emerge and compete for opportunities.
The coach said Amrabat had “given a lot” to the national team and deserved recognition for his contribution. At the same time, he stressed that a player’s previous standing cannot automatically determine his role in the present squad.

Ouahbi used the discussion to explain one of the principles he intends to apply when selecting players. Experience and previous achievements remain important, but they do not guarantee selection.
“Past achievements give you respect, of course, but they do not give you privileges,” the coach said, summarising his approach to competition within the national team.
According to Ouahbi, selection should primarily reflect merit and a player’s current form. That approach also applies to established members of the squad as Morocco continues to integrate younger talent.
The coach’s comments underline the competitive environment surrounding the Lions of the Atlas, where previous international service does not necessarily secure a starting role or even a place in every squad.
הדלת נשארת פתוחה עבור אמרבט
Despite Amrabat’s current absence, Ouahbi indicated that the midfielder’s international future remains open. The coach stressed that no player is permanently excluded from consideration and that the door remains open to anyone capable of earning a place.
For Amrabat, the situation therefore appears to be linked primarily to competition and playing time rather than a definitive break with the national team.
As Morocco prepares for its forthcoming international commitments, the midfielder will remain part of the wider selection picture, with his potential return dependent on the same criteria applied to the rest of the squad: current performance, form and sporting merit.
